Causing A Scene

If you haven't heard or watched the work of Improv Everywhere, let me tell you, you have to see it to believe it.

In a nutshell they are a New York based improv group who stage "scenes" in public places to amuse - or maybe just confuse - unsuspecting members of the general public. They've frozen Grand Central Station (one of my favorites), conducted a cell phone symphony and sent 111 shirtless men into an Abercombie and Fitch. Some of their efforts work better than others but they are always interesting to watch.

Their latest one is a musical "interlude" set in a mall food court. I have never denied that I am a flamingly gay man trapped in a woman's body, and my roots in musical theater go deep, so maybe that's why this one appeals to me so much.

What do you think?

Lowering The Tone, One Bird At A Time

I first saw this on Skinbeater Greg's blog - which you should go check out if you haven't yet, it's a blast - but now it's popping up everywhere, so I don't feel like I'm ripping off his content quite so much, hehe.

Not Just Thrilling But Healing .....

Ever since I stumbled across the Filipino prisoners doing the Thriller dance, I have been on the lookout for an answer as to why?

Thanks to this report from NPR, we have an answer. It IS rehabilitation! I knew it!

It is the brainchild of Byron Garcia, the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center security consultant who wanted to boost attendance at daily exercise sessions. He says, "I wanted a program where everyone would exercise an hour a day. One day, I saw these waves of orange people (in the exercise yard). I thought it looked very nice."

There you have it folks. Byron Garcia is a visionary; anyone who can get almost a 1,000 prisoners, 300 of which are banged up for murder, to joyfully group dance to songs by Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury and the Village People is a genius. I definitely think the Filipinos are on to something.

I leave you with Jumbo Hot Dog. I can't understand what they're singing but the pelvic thrusts are pretty self-explanatory. Enjoy!

Oh, The Drama!

Okay, I will quit trawling YouTube now, I promise!

Dancing with Aunt Jackie

YouTube strikes again!

I loved this video, it totally reminded me of being a teenager in the 80's and loving the newfangled "rap music" that was taking over the airwaves. It's definitely a throwback to an earlier time.

Plus, the dance is so simple, even white people can do it! Love that little shuffle and pirouette! I can totally imagine some drunk boss at a company party doing this and thinking he's cool.

Battle at Kruger

This is pretty amazing. Don't worry, it has a happy ending!
